Susan George is a political economist and author of more than a dozen books. She is Chair of the Planning Board of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam, an informal association of academics and civil society activists working towards improving social justice. Her most recent book in English is "Another World is Possible if..." Born in the United States, she currently lives in Paris.

Susan George considers the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) to be acting as a de facto World Ministry of Trade and Finance. Together they operate in the interests of the rich nations, often at the expense of poorer nations. She cautions against the current trend to privatize public services such as transport, health, water and other utilities. Furthermore, the WTO extension of patents impedes the transfer of new technologies to the developing world and is an abuse.
